1. Extrude block-out resin material onto facial and buccal surfaces of teeth to be whitened, ensuring material is evenly distributed.
2. Smooth any rough areas with explorer or another instrument of choice.
3. Using a curing light, polymerize material for time indicated in manufacturer’s instructions.
Special Notes/Helpful Hints • Block-out resin is used to form a space between the whitening tray and the tooth structure. This space allows room for whitening gel to sit against the tooth in the whitening tray. • Block-out resin is not a mandatory step in the fabrication of a whitening tray; rather it is a personal preference.

• Custom whitening (bleaching) tray
• Whitening gel
• Soft toothbrush
• Paper towel
Directions
1. Brush teeth before inserting trays.
2. Place pea-size amount of whitening gel on the inside of each custom whitening tray toward facial and buccal aspect of each tooth being bleached.
3. Insert trays over teeth and lightly tap to adapt trays to sides of teeth.
4. Use dry or damp paper towel to remove excess material that may have extruded out of trays.
5. Wear trays for time indicated by dentist or manufacturer’s instructions.
6. Remove trays from mouth and remove excess gel with soft toothbrush.
7. Rinse twice with water to remove any remaining gel, being sure to expectorate the water; do not swallow.
8. At conclusion of whitening, clean trays with soft brush and cool tap water.
9. Store trays in case provided by dental professional.
