A demographic study on 50 cleft lip and palate patients

Cleft lip and palate is a common congenital facial deformity. For a good outcome early correction is essential. Further more in most of the cases this is associated with other congenital defects so a thorough demographic evaluation is necessary. A cross sectional study was performed on 50 cleft lip and palate patients at Dhaka Dental College Hospital, Dhaka on January to December 2010. Irrespective of age and sex based on certain inclusion and exclusion criteria, presenting with cleft lip and palate who were attended in the department of oral and maxillofacial surgery of Dhaka Dental College Hospital, Dhaka within the study period. Each of the patient was undergone a thorough demographic evaluating procedure. The purpose of this study was ascertained to find out the social awareness of the patient as well as the importance of involvement of multidisciplinary approach for proper management especially those have associated anomalies.
