The technological advances as well as great aesthetic expectations of patients in orthognathic surgery have made this procedure an increasingly demanding surgery. Today the patients not only demand functional results, but also they need to obtain an aesthetic facial outcome. This makes additional cosmetic surgery a recurrent need in these patients.
A comprehensive facial treatment in one surgical time is proposed. In this way the dento-skeletal and aesthetic problems of the patients are solved in one procedure. Now a day, if we solve only the functional or the aesthetic problem alone, the treatment is considered partial or insufficient. Orthognatic surgery should be combined with cosmetics procedures like rhinoplasty, otoplasty, facial liposuction or frontoplasty.
Conclusion: There are many advantages in doing complementary plastic surgery with orthognatic surgery from the functional, esthetic, psychological and economic point of view. We should join the maxillofacial and aesthetic concepts to achieve an optimal facial aesthetic outcome.
