How Supplied

Two pastes in tubes: gray base paste and red accelerator paste

Composition

Base—organic polymer, reinforcing agents
Accelerator—citric ester, silica, polyethylene glycol

Armamentarium

• Polyether impression material
• Mixing spatula
• Wax-coated mixing pad
• Impression tray

Directions

1. Dispense equal lengths of base and catalyst onto wax-coated mixing pad.
2. Mix both pastes together for 45 seconds (homogeneous mix should be obtained).
3. Scoop mixed material onto end of mixing spatula, load into impression tray, and take impression.

image Special Notes/Helpful Hints • When mixing vinyl polyether silicones, do not mix by stirring (to avoid formation of bubbles). Wait a minimum of 30 minutes from the conclusion of taking an impression to pour model. • See manufacturer’s instructions for specific processing and setting times.

How Supplied

Different-colored pastes in cartridges or containers

Composition

Silicone, reinforcing filler, and chloroplantinic acid

Armamentarium

• Double-bite tray
• Addition silicone impression material in cartridges
• Dispenser gun
• Mixing tips
• Impression syringe
• Paper towel

Directions

1. Isolate quadrant in which impression will be made.
2. Take preassembled dispenser gun and mixing tip and extrude small portion of material on a paper towel; when homogeneous mix is observed, dispense material into impression syringe.
3. Using impression syringe, dispense material around prepared tooth structure.
4. Load double-bite impression tray with impression material and place over prepared tooth structure.
5. Instruct patient to bite together.
6. Allow material to set or harden. Once hardened (this can be verified by touching the small amount extruded onto the paper towel) the impression may be removed.
7. Verify that all components of the prepared tooth have been recorded in the impression and no voids are present.

image Special Notes/Helpful Hints • Addition silicone is available in light, medium, and heavy body. • Light-bodied material is best used for a double-bite impression or the wash of a two-step putty technique.
