Descending palatine artery pseudoaneurysm after orthognatic surgery: a case report

Pseudoaneurysms in the maxillofacial territory are very rare. They are produced by an incomplete section of an artery’s internal wall. Unlike aneurysms, these are only covered by the external layers of the vessel. Pseudoaneurysms are related to congenital factors, traumatisms, surgical interventions, infections, and biopsies among others. The presence of these lesions after LeFort I osteotomies, is a very serious complication that must be timely treated.

This report presents a case of an 18-year-old female, who presented a severe late epistaxis after a bimaxillary orthognatic surgery. We will show the management and treatment based in superselective embolization of palatine artery pseudoaneurysm.
