Bimaxillary anterior segmental osteotomy with soft tissue manipulation—procedure to improve facial beauty

Introduction: Dentofacial deformity affects the facial aesthetic which requires a combination of Orthodontics and Orthognathic surgery. The physical and psychosocial impact of deformity can profoundly affect the quality of life and entail life. People usually recognize irregular teeth or obvious jaw deformities and seek treatment from an orthodontist, who can improve teeth alignment, function and facial aesthetics. But orthognathic surgery has created new and exciting opportunities in the treatment of patients with such dentofacial deformities. Bimaxillary Osteotomy is one of the orthognathic procedures which can correct bimaxillary proclination and skeletal class II malocclusion. During the procedure, soft tissue manipulation can improve the facial beauty by altering the shape of nose, columella, alar base, lip and cheek.

Materials and methods: Five female patients age ranged from 22 to 61 years with average age 34 years of bimaxillary proclination and skeletal class II malocclusion were treated by bimaxillary anterior segmental osteotomy with set back and simultaneous soft tissue manipulation.

Results: All patients were satisfied with acceptable facial aesthetics and oral function. No complications were seen in any patients.

Conclusion: The procedure can be a good option for improvement of facial beauty.
