GENERAL INFORMATION

Tongue: a muscular structure in the oral cavity, divided into 2 parts:

Oral, movable part

Pharyngeal, nonmovable part

Median fibrous septum is thick tissue separating the tongue into halves

Appearance

The appearance of the tongue may reflect health problems:

Fissured tongue

Black hairy tongue

Geographic tongue
