From the buccal or lingual views, both maxillary and mandibular molars are wider mesiodistally than occlusocervically (Appendix 7a), and from the proximal views, they are both wider faciolingually than occlusocervically (Appendix 7h).
Molars have an occlusal (chewing) surface with three to five cusps, and their occlusal surfaces are larger than the other teeth in their respective arches. They have broader occlusal surfaces than do premolars, both faciolingually and mesiodistally.A
