Ameloblastoma is a benign odontogenic tumor of epithelial origin that exhibits a locally aggressive behavior with a high level of recurrence. The rate of recurrence according to literature and various authors is less than 5% worldwide. Especially larger lesions require a more radical surgical approach resulting in large jaw defects. Reconstruction of these defects based on the site thus pose a challenging problem to the maxillofacial surgeon, more so in medically compromised patients. Our experience in dealing with 38 patients suffering from this common yet perplexing tumor based on the’ site” in the mandible with a 8 year follow up will be discussed.
