- Allows for automated, mechanical respiratory assistance to the patient
Common Ventilator Modes
- Volume Controlled Ventilation
- The patient is ventilated at a set volume regardless of inspiratory effort
- Pressure Control Ventilation
- The patient is ventilated at a set pressure regardless of inspiratory effort
- Synchronized Intermittent‐Mandatory Ventilation (Figure 1.20)
- The ventilator will deliver a set number of breaths per minute
- Also allows for spontaneous breathing by the patient
- Ideally synchronized to spontaneous efforts
