Introduction: O M S has progressed significantly in South America in the last decades, with a great contribution from foreign surgeons and professors from other countries, especially USA and EU. Formal training has evolved a lot from what it was in early years. However, there are still discrepancies in training among different countries and even within some countries.
Aim: The aim of this presentation is to give an overview of OMS training in South America and discuss some issues to be taken in consideration in the future.
Conclusions: A standardized system of OMS training and a reliable system of course accreditation are still very much in need in many South American countries.
