  • Most effective on a dry surface as the medication will be better absorbed
  • Can be ester or amide
  • Indications
    • Needle‐phobic patients
    • Awake fiberoptics
    • Prior to IV placement
    • Prior to local anesthetic injection
    • Assist with intraoral radiographs
    • Minimally invasive intraoral procedure
  • Contraindications
