- Many are available over the counter
- Most effective on a dry surface as the medication will be better absorbed
- Can be ester or amide
- Indications
- Needle‐phobic patients
- Awake fiberoptics
- Prior to IV placement
- Prior to local anesthetic injection
- Assist with intraoral radiographs
- Minimally invasive intraoral procedure
- Contraindications
