- Smoking is associated with an increased risk of perioperative complications [6]
- Should encourage smoking cessation as much and as early as possible prior to the procedure. Past clinical practice posed that short‐term smoking cessation may increase perioperative cardiopulmonary complications, but this has been debunked [7, 8]
