After interviewing many applicants, the Board of Trustees of the American Association of Orthodontists selected Rolf G. Behrents as the next editor-in-chief of the American Journal of Orthodontics & Dentofacial Orthopedics . This decision follows the sudden loss of Vincent G. Kokich last July. “Buzz” Behrents, as he prefers to be called, will serve as the Editor Designate during a 6-month transition period and will become the Editor-in-Chief on July 1, 2014. He is the Lysle E. Johnston, Jr., Professor of Orthodontics and Director of the Orthodontic Program at the Center for Advanced Dental Education of Saint Louis University. He received his orthodontic training and master of science degree from Case Western Reserve University (1975), followed by a PhD degree from the University of Michigan for work conducted at the Center for Human Growth and Development (1984). He was a member of the faculty at Case Western Reserve University from 1978 to 1984 as director of the Orthodontic Program. He joined the faculty at the University of Tennessee College of Dentistry in 1984 and served as professor and chairman of the Department of Orthodontics until 1997. From 1998 to 2003, he was professor and chairman of the Department of Orthodontics at Baylor College of Dentistry. He served as the executive director of the Center for Advanced Dental Education at Saint Louis University from 2003 to 2011. With this extensive background in research and education, it is easy to see why he prevailed in the interview process.
