  • Mechanism of Action
    • Central dopamine receptor antagonist
  • Clinical Implications
    • Continue drug perioperatively
    • If discontinued, have patient continue when surgery completed
    • Extrapyramidal side effects
      • Involuntary muscle contractions, tremors, and movement
      • More common with older agents (Haloperidol, chlorpromazine) and after recent medication change/increase
    • These medications can lead to neuroleptic malignant syndrome
