- Central dopamine receptor antagonist
- Clinical Implications
- Continue drug perioperatively
- If discontinued, have patient continue when surgery completed
- Extrapyramidal side effects
- Involuntary muscle contractions, tremors, and movement
- More common with older agents (Haloperidol, chlorpromazine) and after recent medication change/increase
- These medications can lead to neuroleptic malignant syndrome
