Anatomy

  • Part of the autonomic nervous system
  • Cell bodies are in nuclei of the brainstem (CN III, IV, VII, and IX) and S2–S4 lateral horns
  • Ganglion closer to target organ for more directed effects when compared to sympathetic nervous system
