How do wisdom teeth erupt?
As the roots of the wisdom teeth develop, the teeth begin to move slowly through the bone and only the crown portion comes into the mouth. The root portion stays firmly anchored in the bone.
By age 16, the jaws have almost reached their adult size. Some jaws, like the ones in these illustrations, grow long enough to allow room for the wisdom teeth.
