Common Drug Dosing
- The following drug dosing ranges are an approximation based on a healthy adult patient, unless otherwise specified. This does not consider extremes in BMI, age, nor comorbidities
- Sedation level is never based on a specific dose or dosing schedule, but rather the patient’s response
- Sedation levels covered on page 64
- The anesthesia provider should check with their state dental board and sedation/general anesthesia regulations to confirm the level of sedation, patient age, and drugs allowed
Minimal Sedation
- Mainly a single drug technique
- Indications
- Age two years and above
- Must be able to cooperate
- Mild to moderate adult anxiety
- Mild to moderate invasive procedure with effective local anesthesia
- Preoperative anxiolysis prior to IV placement
- Medically compromised
- Contraindications
- Uncooperative
- Severe anxiety
- Local anesthesia may be incomplete
