Antiplatelets

  • Consider coordinating with physician and surgeon to establish a plan regarding adjusting antiplatelets for an elective procedure, balancing the risk between re‐thrombosis and perioperative hemostasis
  • If antiplatelets and/or anticoagulants are to be continued perioperatively, consider the following local hemostasis techniques:
    • Local anesthetics with vasoconstrictors
    • Hemostatic agents
      • Topical thrombin
      • Oxidized cellulose (Surgicel®)
      • Absorbable gelatin (GelFoam®)
      • Absorbable collagen (CollaTape®)
    • Primary closure
    • Cautery
    • Staging the procedure
