The application of septal cartilage in unilateral cleft lip nasal deformity

Objective: To investigate the method that application of septal cartilage in unilateral nasal deformity.

Methods: During the period between 2009.09 and 2010.04, totally 18 unilateral cleft lip nasal deformity had been treated in our department, from 17 ys to 35 ys, average on 22.4 ys. 18 patients were operated by using autologous nasal septal cartilage as shield graft or on-lay graft through external rhinoplasty approach. The retaineres of nose to be used at least for 6 monthes from 6th day after operations. The patients returned visit at 3-month and 12-month after operations.

Results: 3 months postoperation, all 18 patients had good appearance of noses, which included symmetric nostrils, intermedial nasal columellae, eminentia nasal tips, full apperance of alar. 16 patients who had followed when 12 months postoperation hadn’t been observated of deterioration of nasal appearance.

Conclusion: The application of septal cartilage in unilateral nasal deformity got satisfactory effect and was to be recommended.
