Authors’ response

As we have mentioned several times in our previous articles including our most recently published work, (Chan E, Dalci O, Petocz P, Papadopoulou AK, Darendeliler MA. Physical properties of root cementum: part 26. Effects of micro-osteoperforations on orthodontic root resorption: a microcomputed tomography study. Am J Orthod Dentofacial Orthop 2018; 153:204-13), we believe that the effects of different treatment procedures or other interventions on root resorption should be evaluated in patients who are undergoing full-length orthodontic treatment. However, those further investigations depend on technological advancements that will allow the scientific community and researchers to implement noninvasive access (radiological or surgical) for root evaluation. In the meantime, we will continue to investigate root resorption to understand better its pathogenesis and to find ways to prevent this side effect of orthodontic tooth movement.
